Classic Chili

There's something comforting about a steaming bowl of classic chili on a cold night. The tantalizing aroma of simmering spices, savory beef, and hearty beans promises a meal that warms both body and soul. Today, we're sharing a timeless chili recipe that will become a staple in your kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced

  • 1 pound 90% lean ground beef

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder

  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper* (optional)

  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth

  • 1 (15 oz.) can petite diced tomatoes

  • 1 (16 oz.) can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce


Instructions:

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  • Add diced onions and cook until they're translucent and fragrant.

  • Brown the ground beef in the same pot with the onions, breaking it up into small pieces.

  • Stir in chili powder, cumin, sugar, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper for that extra kick.

  • Pour in beef broth, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and tomato sauce. Stir everything together.

  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for at least 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
