2 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper* (optional)
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1 (15 oz.) can petite diced tomatoes
1 (16 oz.) can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
Instructions:
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add diced onions and cook until they're translucent and fragrant.
Brown the ground beef in the same pot with the onions, breaking it up into small pieces.
Stir in chili powder, cumin, sugar, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper for that extra kick.
Pour in beef broth, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and tomato sauce. Stir everything together.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for at least 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
